Rhody Q Burlesque Mentorship Program
Rhody Q is thrilled to bring back our 6-week mentorship program starting on February 16 through March 29 designed to help aspiring burlesque performers transform into confident stage stars! Over the course of this 6-week program, participants will be assigned a mentor and learn the essentials of burlesque, including act development, confidence building, and have one-on-one Q&A sessions with seasoned performers. Whether you're new to burlesque or looking to refine your skills, this program will equip you with everything you need to shine on stage. Each person that signed up will be randomly assigned a mentor either: Odette Goode or Lopez La Lopez for the duration of the program. In additional to the weekly mentorship, this year we are also offering three additional classes taught by three seasoned local performers covering a wide range of topics.
Mentees will schedule virtual meetings with their mentors via Calendly. We have 12 slots available. To sign-up, you must be available for show-date March 29th.
The Rhody Q mentorship program is a pay-what-you-can-scale starting at $26. Rhody Q offers BIPOC scholarships. For an additional $20, get access to additional burlesque classes taught by three local legends.
Mentorship Curriculum
-
Week 1: On-Boarding and Goal Setting
The first week focuses on meeting your mentors, establishing clear goals, and setting the tone for the six weeks. This is a low-pressure intro into the program and to brainstorm act ideas with your assigned mentor.
-
Week 2: Concept Development
During our second week, performers will begin to solidify their acts. This week focuses on developing stage persona, creating a clear concept, storytelling, and music selection. Mentors will work with mentees to make sure the act is authentic and achievable.
-
Week 3: Costume Concepts
Week three is dedicated to costuming tips and tricks, along with discussing burlesque costume fundamentals. Mentors will provide guidance on creating costumes that align with performer goals and character, with a heavy emphasis on DIY and budget-friendly techniques.
-
Week 4: Choreography and Act Structure
From transitions, tease, pacing, and musicality, Performers will walk through their routines and develop a structure for their act. Mentors will help come up with suggestions and give feedback so the act is built with intention.
-
Week 5: Owning The Stage
As we get closer to show-day, we shift focus to confidence building and connection. Performers will work on stage presence, body language, and tips for feeling comfortable. Mentors will be here to chat through any stage nerves and offer tools to help mentees to feel practice confidence.
-
Week 6: In-Person Workshops
This final meet is all about refinement and readiness. Mentees will meet IN-PERSON to workshop their act, receive feedback, and make adjustments prior to show date. This is also a fun way for mentees to meet each other in a supportive environment!
-
Show Day: March 29th
The mentorship program concludes at The Rhody Revue: Student Showcase on March 29th at AS220’s Black Box Theatre, in Providence RI at 7pm. Call time is 6pm. Mentees will debut their acts in front of a live audience and graduate with a Rhody Q Mentorship Program Certification of Completion.
